Cross Insurance Arena | Portland, Maine

The Book of Mormon, one of the the longest-running shows in Broadway history, will now be available in Portland! and performing at Cross Insurance Arena on Saturday 28th September 2024!

This tale is of the coming-of-age story of an odd pair of two Mormon missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham. The Book of Mormon satirizes religion and religious storytelling, and presents it in a fresh comedic light. The two missionaries are sent on a mission to convert the residents of a local village in Uganda, who turn out to be dealing with issues of their own rather than what they aim to preach.

The Book of Mormon was a brainchild back in 2003 by creators Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, continuing on to its debut in 2011. Since then, the musical comedy has become one of the highest grossing Broadway shows in history, with repeatedly full houses for over a decade.

The Book of Mormon will only be on tour in Portland’s Cross Insurance Arena for a limited period this fall. Don’t wait for seats to run out on this popular Saturday showing!

Applauded as one of the highest-earning Broadway shows of all time, The Book of Mormon has been a box office success from all around the globe. In its several local city productions in the United States, London’s West End, and Australia among others, the musical comedy has been met with an impressive reception from audiences and sold-out shows. In Portland, it is expected to be no different as the performance on Saturday 28th September 2024 will be staged in Cross Insurance Arena, with a reputation of holding the greatest plays and musicals, and loved by audiences because of its beautiful facilities and adequate seating.

The Book of Mormon is a musical about faith and how we behave towards it, specifically Mormon missionaries named Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they are ordered to teach their religion’s faith and teachings to a small local village in Uganda. They come to find out however, that the villagers do not care about their preaching, as they are dealing with their own personal problems. The pair then clash because of their methods to convert the locals, with Cunnigham’s often involving adding fiction and fantasy to his religious teachings.

After a decade of success, The Broadway hit has won several awards in both Broadway and West End. Let's not forget the nine Tony Awards out of fourteen total nominations, including for Best Musical after its debut in 2011, four Drama Desk Awards, and three Outer Circle Critics awards. In the West End production of the show which debuted in 2013 at the Prince of Wales theatre, it won four Laurence Olivier Awards again including for Best Musical, while in its Australian tour in 2017, it also won two Helpmann Awards that also included for Best Musical.

Financially, The Book of Mormon has also achieved impressive monetary success with more than 4,600 performances as of the end of 2023. It has raked in over $1 billion dollars worldwide, and was even favored by the church through purchases of ad space, billboards, bus advertising space, and other marketing campaigns in the several destinations in which the show appeared in.
